What To Pack For Iceland.
Iceland is the epitome of adventure. Jaw dropping cliffs, vast glaciers, bubbling lava fields, and picturesque waterfalls abound. The experiences (and photo opportunities) are endless.
But the island’s wildly variable weather makes packing a challenge for even the most seasoned traveler. A single day can bring sunshine, rain, snow, wind, and a 20-degree temperature swing. Layering is essential, as is footwear and outerwear that can handle the extremes of Iceland’s dramatic landscape.
I write from Hotel Ranga, our base during a six-day Backroads adventure along Iceland’s southern coast. We’re bookending the trip with nights in Reykjavik, the country’s spirited capital. Our days are active: hiking volcanoes, walking on glaciers, boating across ice lagoons, and barreling through the backcountry in super jeeps.
Sound appealing? If you’re planning your own Nordic escape, I’ve rounded up everything I packed—from the coziest underlayers to weatherproof outerwear and all the essentials in between.
